October 29-30 at the equator. 0 degrees 154w. Work for Sea Launch this is how we spend our downtime when we aren't launching a rocket. It is a floating self proppelled launch platform. 2 days 100 Albacore. We stopped last night at 40 due to the fact the freezer is full. Most fish where 20-40 lbs and one was 100+ picture to be posted soon. We lost all our lures so we had to resort to homemade stainless steel ones with the hooks silver soldered together to make trouble hooks out of single hooks. 2 lures are in the upper left corner of this picture.

Awsome catch Mike. Some times I wish I never turned down that job. This is one of them. For those not in the know Sea Launch is home base in Long Beach where they process the satelite and rocket. They drive to the equator at 10 knots, fish and then send a rocket into orbit. Long Range?

And this being Mikes first post its nice to see friendly people jump all over his shit.

Great photo Mike and thanks for posting.

I'll PM you from HB tommorow. And thanks for saving me some Albies COOL!

John

If I'm reading this correctly, I'd love to see the photo of the 100+ pound albacore.

Re: Good Night for Albacore (this time with the picture)

Great catch, but they are not albacore....

Even better, they're bigeye!!

Beautiful red meat, long sickle shaped pectoral fin, and the tapetum are a dead giveaway.

Re: Good Night for Albacore (this time with the picture)

I was gonna ask the same, if he meant 100+ Albie because they have caught Blue Fin Tuna and Bet and Yellow Fin Tuna on most trips as well as squid, sharks....

But Albie @ 100+ no problem. I've read 120 on the east coast USA. They catch em all the time on East coast USA night fishing. Hudson Canyon and others around NY and NJ.

We ,USA west coast guys only see young Albies (up to 88# off SC). After they mature they stay down at the equator to reproduce. That is why you will never catch an Albie with eggs of the west coast.

We will soon find out, he is in a launch count down and not drunk surfing the Net yet.

Re: Good Night for Albacore (this time with the picture)

On second look, I think you are right!

BET

He is bringing me some fillets (10 days from now) if the launch goes.

Those pec fins should be much longer!

Good call!
