Sitka, AK

Quick report. Just back from a 3 day fishing trip with Kingfisher Charters in Sitka, AK. Silver Salmon were abundant. Caught 12 in 3 days. Halibut slow until last day, when I caught 4 in three hours. The 141# is a personal best.

Longer report. This was my 4th trip to Kingfisher Charters: http://www.kingfishercharters.com . I have no affiliation with them, other than considering Seth Bone the owner operator a personal friend.

Day one fishing 3 Silvers (Coho) and 1 Halibut. Small Craft Warning 25 knot winds 6' seas. BTW also caught and released 3 personal best Ling Cod due to special closures to allow the lings to recover from over fishing. The lings were 45, 50, and 55 lbs.

Day two 6 Silvers no Halibut. Small Craft Warning 5' Seas.

Day Three 3 Silvers and 4 Halibut to 141 lbs - my personal best. 60 lbs, 45, and 30.

Parker 2520 are the boat of choice for much of the fleet in Sitka, AK.

I can vouch for their ability to handle really rough water.

I will be in Sitka on Wednesday

HI JIM,
I will be Arriving in Sitka on Wed. Fishing Thur, Fri, Sat. Hope you left some fish for me. Just kidding. I go every year and fish with Reel Class Charters. We have the same group every year go together. Last year I caught and released a 90" Halibut estimated at 400Lbs. Good thing I had my Penn Internationals with me. What a prehistoric monster. We only keep the Halibut that are #125 or less. I have been checking the weather and it does not look good. Last year we got spoiled 70 Degrees everyday and smooth waters. I have been out there when its sloppy and it was not fun but we are diehards and fished anyways.
Thanks for the great report,

Thanks for the report, I'm making my first trip to AK on the 19th to fish with Kingfisher. Pretty pumped up after reading your report. Whats the deal on the Ling Cod, are they shut down for the season ?

I hope to post up a report as well when I get back.

The Ling Cod season closed about June 15th. However, I THINK it reopens August 15th. Your guide will know for sure. The bad news is that there is a slot limit. Even with the season open, all the Lings I caught would have to have been released.

I was in Sitka about 5 years ago

I fished the first day I was there with the big guy from Blue water fishing and we had a banner day on bottom stuff. No biggies in the way of flatties but I did get a 50 lb ling and a 25lb goldeneye. The ling looked like it swallowed a bowling ball. When we cut it open it had about 5 lb red in his gut. The second day I fished with the kingfisher group and we had limits of halibuts the biggest was estimated at 250 and just barely fit in the boat. It took three of us to get it in the boat. My personal best was around 90 so I am going to go back some day for a big one. Thanks for the report and great pics.
