August in Alaska

Just returned to reality after a great cruise on Holland America with hall passes for 2 days fishing in Sitka and Ketchikan. After 2 previous trips with constant rain and weather, this was a different Alaska- mid 60s most of the trip and no rain.

Sitka August 2 with Mike on the Voyager booked through Sitka Charters. Very good outfit. Beautiful day on the water except for a steady 15-20 kt wind, but we worked the right locations all day so it never got uncomfortable. My 15 year old daughter Alissa caught the derby winner, about a 13 lb. Silver - her first Salmon...

Ketchikan August 3 with Cape Fox fly fishing on some private river water for world class pink and chum salmon- 3 hours of non-stop catching. Props to Mike Humeston. Very knowledgeable but very low key. Myself and 3 others in his group were hooked up most of the time. Borrowed my daughters' waterproof camera for some pretty cool pics.

Alaska is amazing. If you haven't been - go. I'll be back.

Re: August in Alaska

Looks like you had a great trip...i spent the entire summer in Larsen bay as the chef at th Kodiak Lodge. the fishinf was good for most of the summer. the best part was coming home with the 70+pounds of smoked reds , silvers and king. Not to mention the fresh stuff. If anyone gets a chance to take a summer off then do it and get a job at a lodge and fish for the summer. that way the rest of the year slides by untill the following spring.....Richard
