I've never seen a Brookie at the Thorne. The Thorne is known for their Dolly fishing. As for David owning the Lodge, when did Linda give it to him? Last I knew, he was just running the place, since Lance left after last season. Actually he used to be just a fishcutter, until he got his license 3 years ago and started doing some part-time guiding. Also, if you and your dad were paying clients on the boat, then if David or the "other guide" took you out fishing, one of them could not keep there limits of fish (Salmon or otherwise, Resident or non-resident). This is stated right in the ADFG regulations. The only guides over there that are true Residents, that I know of, are Nick and Dick. Don't remember any of the others staying in Alaska year round, which is required to be a true resident. So if David or either one of those two were acting as the guide, then you weren't 1 short of limits of Kings, but 2 over. Now for your report on Silvers, the limit is 6 per person per day. You wrote you had 13 on your "final day", just 2 shy of boat limits. How you figure that math? If by some chance you had a seperate guide besides having David and this other resident guide, that would mean there were 4 fishermen onboard. Which means there could have been 24 Silvers on board. If it was just the 4 of you onboard you could have legally had 18. Either way, alot more than 2 short.
What's the point of tearing this post apart anymore? You really ought to work at getting your info correct if your going to post. And YES, I've killed quite a few Halibut over 270lbs and released even more.
So AKTUNA The 270 Halibut wasn't killed but the way it was release. By the way david was the guide and it was Nick and the boat machine on the boat beside My father and I. I fish with both Nick and Dick. so if you have a problem why don't you ask them they would tell you that. you maybe saw me anyway on Dick's boat with the red hats the said Baja Fish Gear. Baja Fish Gear is one of the largest tackle in Los Angeles County.Understand i was trying to help the Lodges in Prince of Wales Island to get more business then have a guide to tell me off. I was trying to get people to try some where else beside Sitka or the Kenai. If you had anything to say to me you should have sent a private massege and rip me not lose business for Prince of Wales Island.

Re: Fishing in Craig, AK

My point was quite simple. Get the fact straight on what the limits are. It looks like you've edited your first post, as I notice a few changes. Anyways, you mentioned you caught 13 Cohos (Silvers), just 2 shy of limits. Now you say there were more people on the boat. David as your guide, Nick (who has guided in these waters for Waterfall from 95 to 06, so not really a new guide), someone else (you wrote the boat machine?), you and your dad. That would be 4 passengers. 6 Silvers each equals 24 Silvers. A little more than 2 shy. You say you are promoting fishing around P.O.W. and that's fantastic. But don't undercut what our limits are. Be honest and post the correct information. None of us up here want people to be mis-informed on what they can and cannot keep. Now for lodge ownership.....Let's do a comparison. If your parents own their house in El Segundo, and you own your own house or rent an apt. in El Segundo. Does that mean you are also owner of your parents house? I doubt your parents believe you do. Same thing. Linda is the owner, David is managing things and is her son. That doesn't make him the owner yet, but maybe one day.
As for lodges around the Craig area:
Shelter Cove Lodge
Sure-Strike Lodge
Kingfisher Lodge (Different than the one in Sitka)
Catch-a-King Charters and Lodge
Hook-a-Chinook Charters and Lodge
Silver Sea Adventures
Fireweed Lodge
Sunnahae Lodge
Alaska's Best Fishing Lodge
Prince of Wales Charters
Waterfall Resort (Oh ya, by the way, I'm their Head Guide)
El Capitan Lodge
etc., etc. (Sorry doughnut I'm not to familiar with everyone around Point Baker or Port Protection. Know Wooden Wheel Lodge and Black Bear Lodge only)
There's NO reason for you to tell me about Baja Fish Gear. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'm quite familiar with who's who in So. CA. I used to run a few well known boats down there before moving up here.
Sorry if you feel like your story got blown out of the water, but you had too many of the facts about this area wrong. If you posted correct info, I would've been very positive about everything. Actually I can still say, I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to P.O.W. and thanks for trying to shed light on another area besides Sitka or the Kenai.
P.S. Yes "Going Vertical" is a good dvd, but let's see how the footage Michael Fowlkes shot here about a month ago turns out. Everything in HD. New promo dvd for Waterfall and possibly "Going Vertical 2". Should have enough footage for a few episodes for tv.

Thank you for name a few more lodge. I know Sure-Strike and Waterfall Lodge beacuse of Seekers Rods. I know Nick is not a new guide to the area but he is a new guide at Shelter Cove. He is taking over of the Profresser that have lift to go to the Silver King Lodge in Costa Rica to become the manager of the lodge. I saw Michael Fowlkes at the ICast show in Vegas couple day after i got back from Alaska. I hope everything is going well up in P.O.W. there should be a lot of Silver (coho) in the water. how is the pineapple?

My father and I was think about going back up there in a couple years and to a Mooching Video show there is a better way to catch Salmon then trolling that is very boring.

AKtuna good luck on the rest of the year
