Well you can pretty much leave your saltwater gear at home this time of year, unless you can find someone that will take you trolling out of Homer or Seward. The real fishing this time of year is for Rainbows on the Kenai and Steelhead on the Anchor. Brake out the fly rod and give it a try. Of course having said that bead fishing for trout isn't fly fishing so any nice light 8 to 12 pound spinning or casting rod will do. Oh and I am sure some one will say to head up to the valley and fish willow creek or some other Big Sue tributary.

The upper river of the Kasilof holds steelhead this time of year. Also the information about the rainbows on the upper Kenai is right on. They are truely world class fish. I lived up there for several summers but no later then the begining of Sept. There is also the possiblity of making the drive to Deep Creek and seeing if any of the halibut guys are still going out. I also recommend going and checking Seward if for nothing else it's beautiful. Keep in mind all of these places are at least a couple hours from Anchorage. If you want some more information PM me and I'll email you some contact info for some off the guys I know that are there year round. Good luck

There really is nothing in Anchorage other than some put and take lakes that DFG stocks every year.If you want to get to any real fishing your going to need to drive at least 2 hours. The best and closest fishing would be the upper Kenai. There are a ton of guides that float the river or you can fish it from the bank along the Highway. There are quite a few good spots where you can lift a fish from the road.

You are just coming up really late. There are no boats that I know of fishing from Seward and I would think the tractors at Deep Creek shut down weeks ago.You can go to Homer and there are probabaly a few that will take you out. People forget how huge Alaska is. The nearest saltwater fishery is Whittier, which is an hour from Anchorage. Then Seward at 2 hours, Deep Creek 3 hours, Homer and probabaly Valdez are 4 hours. Things are just a long distance away from each other.

Good luck on your trip and you should check out the Great Alaskan Bush Company when you are in Anchorage.

It is kind of an inbetween seasons time. The lakes wont have enought time to freeze over enough for ice fishing and saltwater has pretty much shut down. Your best bet would be what Jason said.
As for the weather (right now) 40's in the day 30's at night, snow levels are working their way down the mountains. It's not winter yet. Be prepared for winter because by the time you leave it could start getting a little cold. You also never know what to expect with the weather up here.
Either way enjoy yourself while you are here. The Great Alaskan Bush Company has good service and a nice menu to choose from. Come back next summer fishing.
