Alright! Late.. but better than ever!

Alright guys, I know this is late.. but better than never. I am a chronic charter guy. I went on 3 charters here in alaska this year. Once with Saltwater Safari with Captain Steve Babinek. Once with Crackerjack Charters and Captain Andy Mezirow. And once with this place called the fish house which I refuse to talk about due to complete disgust. I fished with Babinek for years and caught this nice 80 pounder on light tackle.. although I had the only good fish on the boat lol! I fished with Andy for the first time this year and I have to say I was extremely impressed with the boat, captain and crew. (I was the guy that told you about Matt from Saltwater Safari catching himself in the leg with the stinger hook Andy, doubt you remember.) I only caught chickens on the Crackerjack.. but I am as close to a Pro Halibut charter client as you can get (took 4 halibut charters last year just for fun... gave away half my fish). Those guys know their stuff and I can't wait to fish with them again! I did have a question for any of you guys that do a ton of 'but fishing.... although this isn't technically part of a fishing report. I am a light tackle, big halibut addict.. I am looking for a good jigging rod setup for personal use and to take on charters with me. I am gonna spend about 700-800 on it to use for a LOOOONG time. I DO not like lever drag reels. Any ideas guys? Penn Torque good reels? Give me some feedback if your bored! Later yall.

Light tackle halibut junky...interesting!
As far as gear...your headed in the right direction
I'm sure Andy might chime in and give you a few suggestions.
I on the other hand switched to TLD-20's this past season for charter fishing and love them.

The charter guy I fish with uses Ugly Sticks and Shimano 'Charter Special' reels for halibut.

If you don't like lever drags, then go with Daiwa Saltigas.. best star drag reels ever made imho. I've owned the Penn torques and prefer the Daiwas. The torques are very heavy for such a small reel.

I use Accurate Lever Drags and they have been great but if you are going to fish a Star Drag Reel I would say Saltiga's are a very good bet or Okuma Cedros or Fin Nor Star drag reels.

In my opinion a Shimano Trinidad is hard to beat. Although The TN20 is great and can handle most anything, I prefer the TN 40 as hit has a bit quicker retrieve and more balls.

I like the Avet Lx or JX 6/3 2 speeds. Low end power when you need it!
I've used them for everything from Stripers to Tog to Halibut to Tiles, Cod and tuna and I've found them to be lightweight, reliable and very low maintenance.
