As a Penn Pro-Staffer, I have fished this reel since the very early development stage.
I have caught tons of fish with it, including albacore, yellowtail, bluefin, yellowfin, wahoo, marlin, sailfish, amberjack, big Alaska halibut, lingcod, you name it.
It performs best with 30 or 40 pound topshots, or "straight" 50 to 65-pound braid.
It casts great due to the "disengaging pinon gear", just be sure to de-grease the bearings out of the box and add the "speed oil" product of your choice.
for surface iron, I put a 100-yard topshot of 40-pound mono over 250 yards of 50-pound braid [350 yards total], but for bait fishing with very short 25-foot topshots, it will hold 400 yards of 65-pound braid or 475 yards of 50-pound braid.
Lots of cranking power, and of course the high gear ratio is great with jigs.
If you have large hands, it may be more comfortable to change the handle over to the larger one off the Baja Special.
If using a "cork tape" rod with 40 pound line, I also like to use the "metal" rod clamp off a 16VSX instead of the "stock" nylon one.
