Started the day off right when my first flylined bait got hammered on the way to the halibut fishing grounds. Weird fight. Nice zing, clean hookset, but then I gained a bunch of line. Could feel that it was a heavy fish and was prepared for a screaming Yellowtail run but it was more slow, strong, and steady. Started to think it might be a BSB when it took one little high speed burst, followed by tail thumps. Nothing to do after that but stay with it. By the time I got her boatside she was done. Estimate 26#, filleted and released on the yak.
All I got on the bottom was this tenacious little critter as I bounced home...
Maybe if I go out looking for Yellowtail I can catch a halibut.
