| Re: Pros and cons of the twin vee
I love my 18' Sea Cat and have had it out 40 miles on some days that probably are not good for any 20' or less boat but felt safe. Cats tend to be dryer then mono's and the ride in 1-2 wind chop is something to experience. Fuel economy is also excellant and usually have less draft.
Cons - Some cats will grab one side and want to turn when running down swell at speed, just trim up. Trim is very important and a good set of tabs (even my lil 18'er came with them) will help you get the most out of the ride. Planning cats ride great till the tunnel bottoms out then you will get a hull slam, the amount will depend on speed and design but the higher the tunnel the better. A low tunnel will also pound when trolling directly into a head sea and some designs will sneeze water out the front when this happens, I adjust by changing course slightly. They are very stable when stopped but do tend to drift beam to.
I would buy another cat again in a heartbeat unless I found the money for an ACB.
