I'd say I'll have about 4' of hose between the pump and the tank. I think I could easily modify the tank to hold 20+ gallons with a 6" piece of wood. The inlet for the water from the pump is parallel with one of the walls of the tank, which is square, so in theory, I would assume it would make the current in the tank go in a circular motion. It's definately an easier plumbing job on a swim step. I can fix anything but plumbing so the easier the better.
