5 Day on RP no pics

Just got back yesterday morning from a 5 day on the Royal Polaris. Left 7/7 mid day and back in 7/12. Great boat, great crew, and great food. Not so great fishing but we did get some biters. Okuma sponsored the trip and gave us all backpacks with tee shirts, hats, and some tackle. They also raffled off 3 2 speed reels, some Maui Jim sun glasses, spools of line, flourcarobn, and clothes. They were really great sponsors and brought 50 rod/reels for us to use.

Out of port we went down to Guadalupe. On our way down we saw all the seiners in one spot probably no more than 40-50 miles down. Got to Guadalupe around 7:30 or 8:00 and fished it till about 3:30. I believe we got 12 Yellow Fin Tuna and 10 Yellowtail that day. The Yellow Fin Tuna were mostly in the 30# range with one that probalby went 65 or 70. All the Yellowtail that we kept were big in the 30-40# range. There just weren't that many of them. We did see a lot of sign, jumpers, boils, but it was hard to get them involved. Also the current was real bad so we would end up anchoring and trying to fish 36 guys out of the back of the boat. Its a big boat but not that big. Did see a small (12') GWS.

So we went to Cedros to get some action. Got there about 8:00 and started fishing. We got a bunch that calicos that we ate later and 212 Yellowtail. Not as big as the ones at Guadalupe. These were in the 18-30# range. A lot of fun. We all lost a couple to the kelp. We quit around 2:00 or 2:30 and went back to Guadalupe for some bigger fish.

Got back to Guadalupe around 7:00am. We got 7 Yellow Fin Tuna and 36 Yellowtail. Again we saw fish and sign but just hard to get them to bite. One of the Okuma guys got a 100lb Yellow Fin Tuna. I think there was another tuna that might have gone over 45 but that was it. Of course the Yellowtail were big. I know we ended up with a few over 40lb.

Left there around 5:00pm I think, and headed up for albies. I think we were fishing with the rest of the fleet (Rooster, Excell, Condor, etc...) about 105 miles down. We ended up with 90 albies and a few more Yellowtail. It wasn't wide open on the albies but we fished them till almost 8:00pm. We had one 35 fish stop around the middle of the day, but mostly it was scratch, scratch, scratch. I think we only had 4 troll fish and 3 of them came on one stop.

We were all using 40lb with flourcarbon at the islands, and I think most dropped down to 30lb for the albies.

It was fun but as you can see we did a lot of driving, but that's fishing...
