Nobody mentioned feeling like fish they caught in the surf here in SoCal just might be too dangerous to eat; at least, eat regularly. That's probably my number one reason for the C&R. If I was somewhere more remote and catching fish in the surf I'm sure I'd see my way clear to tasting a few more critters but that's just me maybe.

This is usually how I feel. I did keep my first two Corbina which were both deep hooked and bleeding, one from the southbay which tasted okay, one from Oxnard which tasted alot better, but neither good enough to kill in the future unless bleeding. Never have taken any kind of Surf Perch except one Walleye which was hooked in the gills, and tasted pretty decent, but I release em all now.

A friend of mine really wants to take a Leopard, which he claims taste good, but I have released all of mine (including legals), and fishing with him we never got one over the 36" min.
