We used to camp at Grays Meadow its west of Independnce about 45 miles south of Bishop. The creek is about 5'-6' wide at the camp and runs very fast. Most of the fishing is for stockers with bait I have never fly fished this part of Independnce creek. If you don't get a camp site under the trees you will bake all day long (and it's hard to get a site under the trees) I would camp at Convict Lake or at Mono Village you have more waters to fish and nicer camping.
