Daily Double 11-17 PM Ride

Went out today on the Daily Double with only 7 passengers. Thats right 7! We all pitched in a few more bucks to get the boat out. Bait was already on board, which varied from 4-7 inch sardines and headed out. Weather was beautiful and warm. It felt like a summer day on the pond today. We stopped near the Whistler Buoy and found nada. After about 10 minutes we headed down to Imperial Beach. We arrived around 1515 hours just south of the pier in about 50 feet of water. Bite was slow but Capt Fred said the bite would pick up around 1600 hours. It seems that fish have watches because at 1600 hours the fish bit. We fished for about an hour and change and limited out on sand bass. Drop a strip of squid and not 5 seconds later you were hit. After we limited out it was catch and release for a good 30 minutes. Jackpot went to an older gentleman with his two grandsons. The kids were 8 years old and one of the kids was a Katrina victim. I think both parents were still in New Orleans getting things organized. It was nice to see him having a good time catching fish. Both kids were nailing them. For those of you who know Rodger, a regular on the Double (The guy who looks like Santa Clause) was outfished by the Kids. He only caught 2 this afternoon. But always a pleasure to fish with him.

This morning the bite varied with Lings, Reds, Bass and Barries. It seems that the Barrie bite is only in the AM and the bass bite in the PM. If you guys get a chance, it doesn't get any better to get that much boat with so few people. Essentially, it only takes a minimum of $300 to get the boat out. I spent $43 and had so much rail space, I didn't know what to do. I'll probably head out on Sunday or Monday in the AM if the barrie bite is stil on. Best wishes!!!
