Re: Team Round Up's

Team Got Tail?

South CI 5:30am, lines in a 6a, yellow at 6:30a, around 11lbs. Then nada. Circled south island 1.5x, went up to the North 9, back to South 9, two patties for nada, back to middle grounds/south isl, for nada, up to north isl for nada. Lots of nada. C-light and fried chicken was the ticket!

Lots of fun, nice meeting you Weazel and others...

Re: Team Round Up's

Team: OBBC Worm

Went out to SCI on a center console. Ran all night. We each got between 40 min and 1 hour sleep on the deck. Fished up and down and around the island until 1:00pm for nada but a few calicos. Bait was looking like crap but headed to some banks anyway. We hit the 289, 182, the trench, 181, Del Mar Coastal, La Jolla Coastal for nada.

A freakin 80 foot whale breached right in front of us when we were doing about 26 knots and scared the crap out of us but it was cool. We talked trash all day. gave it everything we had and have no regrets where we decided to fish. Just simply didn't want to sit in the parking lot at the coronados. We saw pilot whales, huge school of dolphin, an 80 foot whale and al kinds of other cool stuff. It was flat enough that our patty spotter fell asleep on the hard top for a 1/2 hour before we realized it. Found about 10 patty's with 3 of them being barn door size and bird crap on them for no joy.

Thought the Captain's meeting would be quick (most tourneys are) so we rushed down from Canyon Lake and got there just in time to stand in line for 2 1/2 hours - only took us 30 sec. to be checked in and on our way back home for 3.5 hours of sleep. Decided not to butt heads with the gang at 0'dark :30 and launched at South Shores at 7:00 am - NO LINE at the receiver.

Made our way to N. La Jolla -2 yellows: 18lbs & 14lbs - these took some excellent team work between Lenny & I because both got wrapped in the deep kelp - Lenny ran the boat & gaffed mine/ I reciprocated on his. We had a lot of interested on lookers that congratulated us for the show we provided - 4 nice calicos - 1 log - some assorted rock fish on plastics. Got to watch the GRRRRL team land a couple of 'tails - talked w/them for a bit - super nice people.

Decided we'd weigh in a little early to beat the crowd and get home for some much needed rest. To our surprise and dissapointment the weigh in wouldn't start 'til 4:00 - most tournaments have a deadline to be in by BUT weigh fish from noon on. We figured that we wouldn't be in the money so we took off.

Lenny & I had a great day fishing - took home some great fish taco meat.

Re: Team Round Up's

Well we headed out from the MCRD marina at 4am and had bait and making a 25Kt run to the 425 by 4.15. 6 am we started fishing a patty for nada and then decided to to head to the 101 looking for more patties with a couple of feathers out trolling. Couldn't find a peice of lettuce anywhere so about 8 am we started making run to the rockpile. Came on 6 or 7 patties and got 1 7# rat. At the rockpile we picked up a few scuplin and a short lingcod on iron before giving up and heading to the south island kelp. We ended up farming 5 nice yellows in the kelp that would of been worth weighing in. Finished up picking up some nice logs right out side the kelp.

Great day on the water and lots fun. We will be back for the 2008 tourny for sure.

Re: Team Round Up's

Team Yankee Blade

Ran to Catalina (for that winning fish) parking lot with no place to park. Seen you there Booyaa.
Bait pump took a dump so we lost all out fin bait. It was over before daybreak.

Left Catalina for Clemente..got there at 9 for no current. Threw iron for an hour for nothing. Watched my buddy Wayne and crew boat 3 or 4 small yellows.
They took off and passed us a net of live squid before leaving. We took off too.

Ran back in for the ridge stopping on many pattys for nothing. Inside the 30 mile bank we found one holding went 3 for 4 and that was it.

Only weighed our biggest fish it was something like 16.6.

Had a great time on Tom's new Parker...get a backup bait pump Tom! Byeye your gonna need to get out more often and practice your gaffing skills. Me?? I shut down the bite farming what we think was a little bigger model.

That was it for us.

Can't wait for 2008!
