Hey just a friendly reminder here to all participants.
Make sure and discuss with your team BEFOREHAND just how the prizes and money will be divyed up. DO NOT wait untill afterwards to try and figure who gets what........ it can lead to bad things and hurt friendships, so figure it out well beforehand.
Each team may have their own way of doing this and I have done it many different ways in the past, some of which are as follows:
Myself & Ryan will be fishing the SD Marlin Club Halibut Tourney soon and we have agreed on the angler getting the winning fish gets a slightly larger chunk of change, basically 60/40. Of course we are a two man team in this tourney so that makes things a little more manageable.
There are other times when I have been on teams and we decide to split the winning evenly, it just all depends on what everybody can come to an agreement on. I personally like the guy who gets the winning fish to get a slightly better portion of the money.
Now when you get into these tourneys that have a bit larger dollar payouts many will decide to make sure the boat owner gets a little extra cut.
Prizes can definetely make things very interesting when a team consist of 3 or more anglers, and this is really where you better figure out things beforehand. Again with us we have in the past made sure that if a rod & reel combo was won it either went directly to the angler or if it was a two man team we may have decided beforehand that it would get split up with the rod going to one guy and the reel going to the other with it obviously being the winning anglers choice.
Anyways there are lots more variables I could throw in here but just talk it over and figure it out before hand as I would hate to see people having hard feeling towards one another because they thought maybe things should be split different, and I have seen this happen.
Damn you Ali, all these added cool prizes is making this tougher that Im not fishing it!! Think you could slide one more open team spot for me?!
Juuuuust kidding!!
