My boat doesn't have a live well so live bait is not an option. None of us have ever fished for yellowtail without live bait. Are we pretty screwed or do we have a chance of not totally embarassing ourselves using frozen or plastic baits?

Installing a live well is kind of out of the question due to cost and space (it's a 18.5ft open bow Sea Ray used primarilly for wakeboarding). I'm just looking to go out, drink some Bud Light, and hopefully get a yellowtail or two aboard and not show up for weigh-in with nothing more than a sunburn and a bag of recyclable beer cans. Suggestions? Oh, you can also pretty much guarantee we won't be entering the $300 jackpot. : )

We'll help you out...just come over where were fishing and you can have live bait @ $25 a pop...we're here to help our bro's

I have a small drag in the H2O reciever if that will get you over the top.

Your welcome to borrow, but if your running & gunning @ 30 kts. I don't think the bait will last.

...how soon everyone seems to forget about our flambouyant hairthilist Bogii. Doesn't end up entering the JP and ends up catching a 300lb slug that bit a RAPALA and misses his shot at a $28k pay day (or something like that) for not kicking down for the side pot.

I still can't believe there are people out there that DON'T understand that everyone in this contest has a 1 in 300 shot at winning a SHITLOAD of money. Those are way better odd's than the lottery.

Don't be a cheap bastard...you may live to regret it.

.... I get all my big yellows on IRON.

Re: Bringing a knife to a gun fight?

The biggest yelllowtail caught on a Guadalupe trip last year was caught on a dropper loop with a slab of mackerel on a circle hook. Do it, and lay down the dough for all the pots.
