I have a tip for people using propane torches for various rod making tasks, ie. gluing tips, getting rid of bubbles in finish, removing old guides, etc.

An off the shelf propane torch will burn too hot. To tame the flame, take a piece of masking tape and wrap it over the air holes at the base of the torch tip. Now poke small holes through the tape with a pencil. That should tame the flame down to a usable heat range for most rod building applications. You can adjust the blame by enlarging the holes if needed. I've been using this technique for the past 6 years with no problems.
