Hi chriscoobs,

Let me preface this by writing right up front that I am still novice in the glorious sport of saltwater fishing. Last year my son and I went on our first five dayer aboard the Red Rooster III out of San Diego. It was the first time I really used iron to fish; however I had previously caught a nice ablie on a Mega Bait lure on a three dayer. Anyway, everyone that I can remember was using using reels that appeared to be 50 series-type reels. I used a Grand Wave 50 & a Sealine X 50. Other fishermen were using Trinidad/Torium 30 size reels. This year we will be using Saltiga 50 reels and the other two as well. Now I do have large hands, and a slightly bigger reel is easier for me to operate. And fianlly, especially at Isla Guadalupe, you never know when you might tie into a 100 plus pound tuna. My Grand Wave Z with 40lb Izor was nearly spooled after hooking into a large tuna that was eaten after I fought the SOB to the starboard side.

Good fishing,

Salty
