yeah, nothing wrong with dragging a dropper loop....but pre-rigged??? the drooper looper is one of the easiest knots to tie. check out a knot book and practice tying those at home. buying a pre rigged set up is a waste of cash! the dropper loop or the spider hitch are both good knots to know. if you plan on doing much fishing, you NEED to practice knot tying at home:

for doing the kind of fishing you were describing, a three way swivel set up also works really well and is better for inshore fishing. i mostly use the dropper in deeper water when i am fishing vertically with little to no drift. fast water will tend to make a dropper set up "spin" the bait, which is why you want a three way swivel to avoid line twist inshore.
another inshore technique you can use for either the dropper or the three way rig fishing is called *pounding sand* (best done with a three way, but you can use the dropper set up too). you simply let the weight hit the bottom and every few seconds raise and drop the weight on the bottom. this will stir the sand up and is a good hallibuttin technique. you need either a bit of current, or a wind drift to cover area. bouncing is better than dragging.
with no current, fish the dropper. let it hit bottom, and then a couple of cranks off the bottom should keep you in the zone and not have you losing gear in structure.
